Did you watch the Chelsea Flower Show last week? Sadly I missed it as I was away on holiday although I have seen some beautiful photos that have been shared in the news and media.
At JDG we love flowers. Who doesn’t? We are just debating what flowers we should plant in our office garden. Do we plant ones we can cut and display in the office? Should we plant something that attracts the bees and butterflies? Or should we create a more edible garden?
Because of the Chelsea Flower Show, we have been discussing gardens, flowers and floral house names. Did you know? Many home addresses feature floral names. Over 1,300 property sales have taken place in the last year on streets bearing the names of some of the UK’s most popular flowers, with Rose being the most popular, followed by Bluebell. We’ve even sold a Rose Cottage ourselves!
What is interesting is that homes that have sold with floral names including Rose, Poppy, Bluebell, Orchid and Sunflower have on average, exceeded the current average home price in the UK of £260,441. Freesia has fetched the most, coming out at an average of £363,700. Is anyone tempted to name their house yet?
It is estimated 87% of UK households have a garden. For those with a lawn, bees, butterflies and other pollinators can benefit from those taking part in No Mow May, a national campaign encouraging those with lawns and verges to let them grow freely. Since 2019, Lancaster City Council has been working with Community Pollinator Patches, a volunteer group which encourages native wildflowers to thrive through good grassland management. Have you spotted any of these areas yet?
My name is Michelle Gallagher. If you would like to chat about anything property related, with a floral name or not, please get in touch. At JDG we are here to help.
