Have you ever watched the TV programme Love it or List it? It is one of my favourite shows. Basically in the show, Phil Spencer and Kirstie Allsopp go head to head as they battle it out to convince homeowners to either sell their home or refurbish it.
Since the show started back in 2015, we have had many love it or list it conversations with homeowners. These chats normally occur when someone genuinely loves where they live but the need more space. Sometimes converting the attic, extending the home or even just re-modelling the layout is the answer to people’s issues. Or it was, until now…..
Last week we were having a chat with a couple who need more space. They have thought about extending however the costs to do is considerably more than they expected plus the builder can’t fit them until at least November.
It is a fact that builders are charging more. The Federation of Master Builders’ latest State of Trade Survey reports that 74% of builders have raised prices for their work since Q4 2021. Workloads have gone up 19%. Costs of materials have increased considerably and labour shortages are also making it hard with 43% struggling to hire carpenters and 41% finding it difficult to find bricklayers. It really is a difficult time for many.
Because of this, many homeoweners are now choosing to list their home. Property prices are at an all time high. Is it time for you to make a move?
